Like an oil painting, a photograph must be compelling to be included in The Collection. It needs to have “wallpower” and engage the viewer. It must demand commentary, even if it is controversial. Ideally, the best images are those you can keep returning to and each time you notice something different or as the viewer evolves, so too does your perception of the meaning of the work.

Inspired by the fashion photography of luxury designer brands and the work of fashion photographers Mario Testino and Annie Leibovitz in Vogue magazine, the collection celebrates both the beauty of the subject (in many cases an individual model) as well as the artistic vision and storytelling of the photographer to create a new and different world.

The ever-expanding collection of photographs spans the 20th and 21st Centuries and includes snapshots by amateur photographers, antique portraits, Hollywood movie stills and publicity photos, as well as limited edition gelatin silver prints by professional photographers. It also includes a first edition poster of “Priscilla, Jones Beach (1969),” Michael’s favorite photograph by Joseph Szabo. The collection is currently available for loan to art museums and institutions in the United States. From black and white portraits to exotic concept cars and advertising prints, The Michael Aaron Gallagher Fine Art Collection has a unique array of images that are both beautiful and mysterious.
