The Michael Aaron Gallagher Fine Art Collection currently includes five works by Chatham, Massachusetts based artist Kevin Doyle. Known for his seaside themed paintings, his work has been collected by art enthusiasts for years. Supermodel Christie Brinkley has also been photographed next to one of his paintings.
According to the artist’s biography, Doyle was born in 1942 and his art was influenced by Henri Matisse and Milton Avery. “He mentored Jean-Michel Basquiat briefly in the early ‘80s,” it says, “and remains an avid collector of both Basquiat and Avery.”
The first piece added to Michael’s collection, which happens to also be his favorite piece by the artist so far, was an abstract painting of a woman. Without knowing anything about the artist, he was drawn to the fluidity of the work, the thick impasto paint and the masterful execution of the subject matter. Because some of the works in The Michael Aaron Gallagher Fine Art Collection were acquired unframed, including those by Doyle, Michael set out to build a custom maple wood frame for this piece, which he painted gold, to add to its elegance.
Although simpler, and perhaps less refined, the next piece shared a similar modern vibe. Its haunting expression made it particularly unique and interesting.
Knowing that Doyle’s work is available in art galleries in the Cape Cod area, Michael was also interested in adding seascapes to his collection. The red boat and the woman on the beach were both added to the collection to broaden the works in that genre.
One of the things that makes Doyle’s work so collectible is that it is also extremely affordable. It is rare for such a talented artist’s original work to be available at a price that makes it impossible not to buy it. As a fan of the artist’s work, Michael Aaron Gallagher hopes to someday add more paintings by the artist to his collection and share his talent with others.
